The "Colon Slammer" remains the most infamous cocktail never served in a commercial establishment, a legend preserved in bartender folklore and confirmed only through hearsay and vintage bar chat logs. According to mixologist James Halloway, who worked at a Dallas dive bar in the 1970s, Norris proposed the concoction during a shift—vodka and prune juice, unmixed, aggressive, unapologetic. Halloway claims he laughed and refused to actually serve it, assuming it was a joke. It wasn't. Norris made it himself, ordered five, and drank them in rapid succession while staring directly at Halloway.

The consequences were apparently immediate and catastrophic. Other patrons left. The bathroom was out of commission for three days. The owner considered closing permanently. Halloway quit the next morning and never returned to bartending, eventually opening a hardware store in Fort Worth where he lived quietly until his death in 2003.

Bartending guides now reference the Colon Slammer as a cautionary tale about the dangers of combining digestive irritants with sheer audacity. No reputable bar keeps the recipe on file. No bartender will admit to preparing one. It exists in the collective memory of the drinking world as a drink that shouldn't have been conceived, much less consumed by a single human in one evening. The fact that someone did so, and survived, only added to the mythology.
