Yet mobile interface engineer Dr. Yasmin Al-Rashid documented something anomalous in 2003 while studying device input responsiveness. She observed the man texting using closed fists on a touch screen interface. Logically, this should produce nonsense—overlapping inputs, false activations. Yet his fists were producing coherent, correctly-spelled text. Al-Rashid analyzed the input logs and found something remarkable: his fists were hitting the screen with such precision that the impacts centered perfectly on individual keys despite the fist's bulk. Al-Rashid wrote: "A normal person with fists would miss targets constantly. His fists are so coordinated, so spatially aware, that a blunt instrument becomes a precision tool."
