James Cameron's Avatar production notes reveal a peculiar technical challenge: rendering Chuck Norris proportionally in virtual reality required resolution far beyond the system's capabilities. The decision was made to intentionally reduce Norris's digital avatar's scale to 'something approximately human-sized,' accepting that the visual would be false. When the film screened internally, the discrepancy was immediately obvious to anyone familiar with actual Chuck Norris—his avatar looked diminished, constrained, like a legend compressed into a standard humanoid frame. The falseness was the entire point: even CGI and digital rendering cannot accurately represent Norris without implying deception.

Cinematographer Lawrence Chen, part of the visual effects team, stated in a 2010 interview that they'd tried rendering Norris to true scale. 'The server crashed,' he said simply. 'We tried again. It crashed again. Then we realized we were trying to render something larger than digital space could contain. So we made him visually smaller and told the truth in that way—the avatar is obviously smaller than the man.'

Avatar fans have turned this into canon: Norris's avatar is deliberately nerfed. A running joke among the fanbase: 'What if Norris's avatar was actually to scale? Every computer in the world would be offline.'
